Late to Posting

I typed up this blog post the week that the finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D aired. Unfortunately, that was the very same day that we had to say goodbye to my beautiful boy Zac. I was such an emotional wreck that I could not bring myself to watch the episode. I didn’t watch it until a couple of weeks later. So if my wording does not sound right, it’s because the post has been sitting untouched for a couple of weeks.

Appreciation

It has been a while since I have posted something about a show or fandom that I am passionate about. With the airing of the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D finale this week and the lead up to it. I felt the need to share my appreciation. It probably has a lot to do with the current situation, being in lockdown and not allowed to leave the house. Feeling trapped, exhausted and emotional.

I have been rewatching Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D recently, and it perfectly fall around the time of the finale airing. This week in the lead up to the last episode the actors have been actively posting on social media. Sharing photos and videos relating to the show. It’s been making me feel a little emotional, I have cried on several occasions.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Fandom

I have watched and loved this show from the moment it started. I may not have watched all episodes as soon as they aired due to being in Australia. But I watched when I could and I have always loved the characters. Especially Melinda May who will always be my favourite Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Ming-Na Wen is amazing. I really have loved this show, the anxious excitement of waiting for a new episode. The intenseness when watching, even during a rewatch I sometimes still feel intense. You are just able to create such a connection with the characters.

I’ve been thinking about how emotional I’ve been this week and wonder how it’s different from other shows. I’ve been a fan of many other shows that have come to an end, but never felt this emotional. I wonder if it’s because I have watched this show from start to finish, as it’s aired (or as close to). With shows like Red Dwarf, Stargate and Criminal Minds I never watched from their original air dates. I got into them later on and became a fan then. I also got to meet Ming-Na Wen in 2014 after only the first season had aired.

Unlike my other fandoms I may not have made a lot of friends though the fandom alone. By the time I got into it, I had stopped being so active on social media. A lot of friends I have from other fandom are also fans , so I have had people to share my obsession with.

Avengers

I will always remember going to see the first Avengers movie, I was with a group of friends and it was the day it came out. The moment when Loki killed Coulson a friend shouted out “F**k you, Whedon!”. Coulson is just a character that we can all relate to. As soon as I knew there would be a TV series with Coulson, I knew I had to watch it.

When the first season aired I was so anxious for new episodes every week. I loved the character of May right from the very start. I always have a weakness for a character who kicks ass but also has her own demons to battle. Plus she is a character who has a lot of emotion, but she doesn’t show it. However, when you really watch her, you definitely see it and I love that!

Celebrity Experiences

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is an amazing show and it is sad to see it come to an end. But as the saying goes “All good things must come to an end”. This show will always be a favourite of mine, and like all favourites I will rewatch it often. I also have the great memories from meeting some of the actors at events. And getting epic photos with them, especially Ming-Na Wen and Elizabeth Henstridge.
